Saving Green Pool Water: Solutions and Precautions
As soon as your pool turns green, it's crucial to act quickly by using the right treatment products, precisely and under the right conditions. Find out which products you need and what precautions you should take.
Restoring Green Pool Water: Chlorine Shock
If your pool takes on a greenish tinge, it's essential to carry out a chlorine-based shock treatment. To do this, you need to follow a few simple steps:
- Check and rebalance the pH of the pool water if necessary.
- Make sure that the filtration system is working properly and that the filter is clean.
Once these checks have been carried out, buy chlorine in tablet or granular form, paying careful attention to the doses indicated on the packaging. Add the chlorine directly to the skimmers as recommended and wait for the water to become clear again. Then manually brush off any algae residue and/or use a robot hoover before swimming again.
Anti-Algae for Green Pool Water
In the event of an algae bloom, the addition of an algicide product is essential to eliminate it. Before administering this product, make sure that the water imbalance is not due to a filtration or pH problem, and correct these parameters if necessary. Follow the recommended doses on the packaging, wait for the water to clear and then clean the pond.
pH rebalancing to combat green pool water
The pH of the water is a crucial indicator of its cleanliness and stability. It is essential to monitor it regularly, especially during the summer months, and to rebalance it if necessary. The ideal pH is between 7.2 and 7.4:
- If the pH is below 7.2, the water is too acid: add a pH+ product.
- If the pH is above 7.4, the water is too basic: add a pH- product.
Variations in pH can lead to deterioration of the water, encouraging algae growth and green discolouration. Always make sure you have pH- and pH+ products available and adjust according to test results.
Flocculant for Better Filtration and Clearer Water
Time to return to clear water
The speed of recovery depends on the treatment chosen. With a combination treatment or shock treatment, you'll be back to crystal-clear water in just a few hours. With a hydrogen peroxide treatment, on the other hand, it will take around 48 hours to restore a clear colour.
