Cleaning a shell pool, 5 essential tips

Nettoyer une piscine coque, les 5 astuces indispensables

The shell pool is easier to maintain than a pool with a liner coating, thanks to its highly resistant Gelcoat. Here are five essential tips for ensuring the daily maintenance of your shell pool!

Regular cleaning of the walls and water line

Frequent cleaning of the walls directly influences the water balance, the appearance of your pool, as well as the health of its users. Some algae can attach to the walls, leaving small dark spots, while debris (insects, leaves, etc.) float on the surface and are generally collected by the skimmers.

A few minutes per day are enough to take care of the walls and water line. Unlike a pool with a liner, the shell pool has a resistant Gelcoat that doesn’t require the use of a soft brush. To clean the water line, a simple skimmer net is sufficient to remove waste.

Opt for autonomous cleaning of the bottom

For cleaning the bottom of your pool, which can be more complicated with a manual brush, we recommend using an appropriate cleaning robot. This type of robot is able to detect the shape of the pool and identify areas to clean, which represents a real time-saver in your daily routine.

Make sure to regularly maintain your robot to ensure maximum cleaning performance, particularly by cleaning the brushes and the filter bag.

Regularly check the water balance

It is essential to check the pH and water balance to prevent the development of bacteria, excessive use of chemicals, and consequently, swimming restrictions.

Using an electronic tester or test strips, you can evaluate water quality in just a few seconds. By performing these tests daily, you will be able to adjust the water quality and fully enjoy your pool.

Adjusting the pH, alkalinity, or chlorine level is a common practice for any pool owner.

Regarding a shell pool, you don’t have to worry about potential damage, as it doesn’t have a liner, which can be more vulnerable to tears and punctures.

Clean the skimmers and filtration system

It is crucial to clean the pre-filter baskets (found in skimmers and the filtration pump) daily to ensure good filtration performance. The accumulation of debris can reduce the effectiveness of water suction and, consequently, impair the elimination of bacteria through water circulation.

In summer, debris accumulates due to frequent pool use. A simple rinse with clear water of the pre-filter baskets is enough to maintain an efficient water renewal cycle.

Performing regular backwashing also helps keep the water clear and eliminate impurities.

Protect your shell with a cover

Using a cover or shelter to protect your shell daily helps reduce the appearance of debris in the pre-filter baskets and at the bottom of the pool.

Some pool protections have various uses. The shelter, the roller shutter, and the bar cover offer additional security by preventing access to the pool (complying with safety standards).

For summer, opt for a double-thickness black bubble cover to limit the proliferation of microscopic algae. By controlling this proliferation, you’ll reduce the daily maintenance of the walls and also simplify backwashing.
