Which bar cover to choose
Practical and adaptable, a bar cover is custom-made to fit your pool throughout the year.
That’s why, before making your choice, it’s essential to consider several criteria to ensure an excellent investment that meets both your pool’s specifications and your expectations.
To select the right bar cover, here are 4 questions to consider:
- Does this cover comply with current standards?
- Is your pool suitable for this type of cover?
- What materials are used?
- Is it easy to maintain and handle?
A bar cover offers security functions
, protection
and insulation
. Featuring transverse bars and a resistant fabric, a bar cover is designed to prevent access to the pool
and to protect it from debris. Easy to install yourself
, it also helps retain heat, limits water evaporation and reduces chemical maintenance.

Does it comply with the NF P90-308 standard?
A bar cover is, by definition, compliant with the standard (NF P90-308) and therefore meets safety criteria. It is designed to support weight and prevent drowning accidents.
However, in certain situations and depending on the cover model, it may not be considered “secure”.
Indeed, if you have a filtration system
, a simple cut in the bar cover can compromise its safety from the moment of its design. Additionally, in the case of an infinity pool
, it will be impossible to make this type of cover comply with standards
. Don’t hesitate to contact our advisors for a free personalized assessment.
Is your pool compatible with a bar cover?
The dimensions of your pool should also be considered when choosing your bar cover. Indeed, the majority of manufacturers of this type of product do not exceed 6 meters in width
. Beyond this measurement, we recommend securing your pool with a roller shutter
for your pool.
The space around the pool is also relevant. The transverse bars rest on each side of the pool at a distance of approximately 25 cm. So make sure that this type of cover can be adapted.
Finally, the shape of the pool to be covered is also important. For a free-form pool, we recommend adding anti-abrasion pads
to avoid damaging the bar cover and the edges of the pool through repeated handling.

The quality of materials
Although a safety bar cover is designed to be robust, the thickness of its fabric is a crucial element.
This thickness is measured by its weight resistance in g/m². Currently, the market offers various thicknesses that will have a direct effect on the longevity of your equipment. This can range from 550 g/m² to 650 g/m².
A bar cover of 580 g/m² represents the right balance between quality and longevity, while maintaining water temperature.
Ease of use and handling
Depending on how you plan to use your bar cover, ease of use and daily handling are essential selection criteria. Pay attention to manual or automatic cranks available on the market to facilitate the deployment and storage of your cover.
Also make sure that the connection fittings are compatible, as depending on the models, your cover may have a male or female end. It will be important to choose a crank that is adapted to your bar cover.

Some high-quality safety covers have an automatic rolling/unrolling system on rails.
Additional information
Some pool covers have additional features such as algae resistance, UV filtering capability, or drainage systems to prevent rainwater accumulation.
Set your budget keeping in mind that quality and safety are aspects you should not compromise on.
