Swimming pool technical room: equipment & layout
A swimming pool plant room is a space dedicated to all of the tools necessary to keep a pool clean, safe, and functional. Indeed, it is the place where you find most of the essential elements of the filtration system and water treatment, such as the pump, the filter, the heater, as well as chemical products.
The plant room is therefore one of the most crucial elements of any aquatic installation. Without it, it would be almost impossible to maintain clear, clean, and pleasant water for swimming.
In this article, we will explore in more detail the elements to include in a pool plant room and tips for setting it up effectively to ensure the proper functioning of your swimming pool!
What is the purpose of a pool plant room?
- Storage of pool equipment and materials
As mentioned previously, the plant room houses the filtration and water treatment systems. It can also contain other equipment such as a pool heater or a safety device. All equipment, whether mandatory or optional, will be described below.
- Extends the durability of pool equipment and materials
The primary function of a plant room structure is to protect all equipment against weather hazards such as variations in weather.
It is therefore recommended that the pool room be a closed space, secure and protected against the risks of flooding and electrocution.
Essential equipment for designing a pool plant room
The pump is an essential part of any pool filtration system. Its role is to circulate pool water through the filter to remove debris and impurities. It is important to choose a pump adapted to the size of your pool and your filtration needs.
The variable speed pumps are often recommended because they consume less energy and offer more efficient filtration.
The filter, as its name suggests, is responsible for filtering impurities and waste from the pool water before returning it to the pool. Sand filters are the most commonly used and are generally easy to maintain. However, there are also cartridge and DE filters which can provide more precise filtration.
It allows for the control and securing of the pool’s electrical devices, such as the pump, filter, heating, lights, etc.
The pipes route the water through a hydraulic circuit connecting the various pieces of equipment and the pool.
Essential additional plumbing equipment:
- Plumbing kit
- PVC fitting
- Pool grounding
- PVC cleaner and glue
- PVC valves
Pool equipment to enhance your experience
The pool heat pump is used to warm the water, thereby extending your swimming time. It captures the calories present in the air and transfers them as heat to your pool water.
Salt electrolysis is a transformation method that occurs in a continuous cycle: salt becomes chlorine and reverts back to salt, and so on. This process offers undeniable comfort during swimming and is also an economical and natural way to sanitize pool water.
The booster pump is essential for operating pressure-side pool cleaners. It is necessary for the operation of Polaris-type robots.
By drawing water from the pool and returning it with high pressure through the appropriate nozzle, the pump generates a water current that allows for continuous swimming in place in the pool.
