Swimming pool liner installation: fitting and filling with water
Installation and fitting of the swimming pool liner
Liner Installation, pool filling, backfilling
Remove concrete residues.
Fix the liner track profile onto the top of the panels with self-tapping screws.
Check that the bottom of the pool is clean, without debris, branches, or other objects. Fill all holes, sweep and vacuum the floor.
Check that the safety valve is installed and functioning correctly, and that the screw holes of the main drain are clean and free of debris or cement.

Install the main drain gasket; you can use silicone to hold it temporarily during liner placement.
Lay the floor felt over the concrete screed without gluing it (to facilitate future removal), secure it with contractor’s tape (orange duct tape).
Do not cover the walls.
Leave enough space for the passage of the upper part of the main drain.
Install the gaskets for the skimmer and returns.
Maintain all wall gaskets with adhesive tape.
Remove the faceplate and screws from the stairs. Check that the gasket is in place. Seal the stair opening and any other obstruction that might hinder the insertion of the liner bead.
Place the liner in the shallow end side. Remove the liner from its box by sliding it out. Unroll it along the slope of the pool.
The indication for the shallow end must be visible. Pull the liner wall towards the shallow end wall until the arrows on both sides of the slope appear. While pulling, arrange the liner so that the arrows are at the transition points. Pull the liner towards the bottom of the deep end of the pool until it is roughly extended.
Wait a few minutes to allow the liner to warm up and become more flexible.
Insert the bead into the track profile.
If the pool is rectangular, align the corners and insert the bead into the profile. Continue inserting the bead, moving from the shallow area to the deep area.
This requires two people, one on each side. Do not pull on the bead. Once the entire length is inserted into the profile, ensure arrows and corners are in place. Then, proceed to the next step:
Gently push the liner towards the bottom of the wall in the shallow area. Sandbags can be placed in the corners to hold the liner in place.
Evacuate air and apply the liner against the walls:
Insert the vacuum hose used to remove air into the upper orifice of the skimmer (up to 60 cm from the intersection of the steel wall and the concrete floor). Tape the top of the skimmer to make it airtight with adhesive tape.
If the pipes are not connected, make the pipe ends airtight with adhesive tape to prevent air from leaking through the fittings.
Turn on the vacuum. As air is sucked from behind the liner, it fits the shape of the pool and all wrinkles disappear.

Installing the gasket and the upper part of the main drain
Adjust the liner before starting this step.
Take the faceplate, gasket, and screws for the main drain as well as a razor and a Phillips screwdriver, then enter the pool in socks.
Gently feel for a screw hole under the liner and insert a small nail through it into the hole.
The nail will serve as a guide for installing the faceplate.
Arrange this plate and the gasket over the main drain. Press down on the plate and check that the nail is centered in the plate’s screw hole.
Remove the nail and insert the screw. Screw until it is halfway in. Align the other holes and insert the other screws. Tighten them firmly and evenly, without forcing too much to avoid breaking the plate or damaging the screw.
Using the razor, cut the liner inside the faceplate. Fix the cover.

Fill the pool while leaving the vacuum running until reaching 20 to 25 cm of water in the shallow end. Ensure there are no more wrinkles and remove the sandbags.
Fix the liner on the edge of the stairs, then cut the liner around the opening with a cutter.
If the fit is satisfactory, start filling the pool with water using a garden hose.
Turn off the vacuum and remove the hose from behind the liner.
You can now fill the pool completely. During filling, attach the faceplates and gaskets for the return inlet and the skimmer, just like those for the main drain.
Your liner is now installed.

Backfilling
When drainage pipes must be integrated into the excavation, this must be done during backfilling.
Start by leveling the spaces between the A-supports (braces) using backfill. Unroll the drainage pipe and position it around the pool. Check that the pipe is flat, without deformation around the pool. To allow water runoff, direct the conduit out of the excavation towards a lower area or into a dry well.
Complete the backfilling.
It is preferable to set the backfill level at approximately the same level as the pool water. In this way, the pressure on the walls will be balanced. Indeed, the backfill pressure must match that of the water to minimize stress on the pool walls.
Avoid dumping large amounts of backfill on a single part of the wall. It is advisable to proceed gradually, backfilling the excavation up to mid-height all around the pool. The rest of the backfill can be added later. This prevents uneven loads that could deform the walls.
It is recommended to use granular backfill without stones or clay to reduce the stresses exerted on your pool walls.
If piping is installed in the backfill, gently lift the conduits to place the backfill underneath and around them. This will maintain the height of the conduits and their distance from the A-supports.
Avoid using a mechanical tamper to compact the backfill.
After backfilling, you can level the gravel and prepare for pouring the deck. It is not recommended to backfill the excavation before filling the pool with water.

Before backfilling
Fix a grounding system (copper braid and stake to be driven into the stabilized ground) to the metal structure before starting backfilling, in order to evacuate residual currents if an electrolyzer or other electrochemical treatment devices are used.
Install your technical room, and ensure that a grounding system (“pool-earth”) is included in your pool plumbing if an electrolyzer is employed. For the final connection to the electrical grid, contact an electrician.
