The NF P90-307 standard for pool alarms and fall detectors
Regulations concerning the securing of private pools establish four equipment criteria.
Here is an explanation of the NF P90-307 standard.
What are the contents of the NF P90-307 standard?
These devices are designed to protect human life.
Alarm systems must be manufactured, built, or installed in such a way that all activation and deactivation devices are not accessible to children under five years of age. Detection devices must be equipped with a sufficiently powerful siren and must prevent nuisance tripping.
All alarm systems must be operational 24 hours a day, regardless of weather conditions, within the limits established by the standard for each product category: they must withstand high temperatures up to 70°C as well as low temperatures of -25°C.
All detection devices must be equipped with an integrated siren or an external siren connected by wiring.
The perimeter detection system must be able to detect any intrusion into the protection zone by a child under 5 years of age, thereby triggering an audible alert signal.
This standard also applies to perimeter detection systems using optical beams associated with an obstacle. This device consists of an obstacle, a transmitter, and a receiver for each protection segment. The components of this security system form an indivisible unit. They must only be separated or disassembled using the tools required for installation and maintenance.
When is it recommended to opt for this security solution?
It is the least expensive and easiest device to set up to comply with the legislation. Two models are available:
- The immersion alarm is triggered when something or someone (generally weighing more than 6 kg) enters the water.
- The perimeter alarm is activated when a person passes through an infrared beam. This device does not prevent a child from approaching the pool, but aims to alert in the event of abnormal occurrences around the basin.
This system is discreet, as it consists of detection terminals and a siren installed near the home. Prices vary from approximately €250 for the first option (a self-powered shell installed on the edge of the pool that captures sound waves produced by a fall) to less than €2000 for the second (terminals placed less than 20 m from each other, connected to each other and to a control unit).
