The Benefits of the Polyester Shell Pool
The polyester shell pool offers multiple advantages. With its variety of shapes and dimensions, it is recognized for its quick installation, exceptional watertightness, and durability. Its attractive cost has won over many homeowners, encouraging them to prefer shell pools over concrete ones. To learn more about shell pools, discover how they are manufactured, delivered, and installed, as well as how they function.
The Polyester Shell Pool: Ready to Install
A polyester shell pool is a basin made of a single piece, delivered “ready to install” to your home. Its structure is formed from a factory-molded shell following a precise manufacturing process. The manufacturer first selects the mold suitable for the model chosen by the customer, then superimposes layers of materials to form the solid structure of the pool.
Advantages of the Shell Pool
- Quick installation: Once delivered, installing the shell takes only a few days, much less than traditional concrete pools.
- Simplified construction: Compared to a concrete pool, the work required is less extensive.
- Wide choice of models: Variety of shapes, sizes, models, and colors to meet all needs and preferences.
- Affordable cost: Generally 10 to 20% cheaper than a similar concrete model.
Manufacturing of the Polyester Shell Pool
Polyester pools are manufactured in factories according to strict reliability and safety standards. Manufacturers who are members of the Federation of Pool Professionals (FPP) must also comply with the rules of the Pool Technical Directive (DTP) to ensure optimal quality. The manufacturing process includes several steps:
- Mold preparation: Sanding and waxing to create a smooth surface.
- Gel Coat application: Coating that provides a smooth and satin finish.
- Pool stratification: Superimposing layers of fiberglass and resin to form the structure.
- Metal reinforcement: Adding metal reinforcements for greater strength.
- Drying and demolding: Oven drying followed by demolding and quality control.
Installation of the Shell Pool
Installing a shell pool requires several steps:
- Layout and earthwork: Soil study, site opening, leveling, and ground preparation.
- Positioning and leveling: Precise placement of the shell on its base, with anchoring and pipe connections.
- Backfilling: Placement of gravel around the pool for final positioning, then peripheral backfilling.
- Connection and hookup: Installation of electrical and hydraulic equipment.
- Installation of the concrete belt and coping: Reinforcement of the shell and aesthetic finishing.
Duration and Cost of Installation
The duration of the work varies depending on the complexity of the project, but on average, it takes about a week. The cost of a polyester shell pool ranges between €15,000 and €35,000 depending on the complexity of the pool. This price includes the pool itself, delivery fees, earthwork, installation, and possibly other expenses. A detailed quote is necessary before starting the work, encompassing all services and execution terms.
