Saving a Greenish Pool Water: Solutions and Precautions
As soon as your pool turns green, it’s crucial to act quickly by using the right treatment products, with precision and under adequate conditions. Discover which products are necessary and the precautions to take.
Restoring Greenish Pool Water: Chlorine Shock
If your pool takes on a greenish tint, it is essential to perform a chlorine-based shock treatment. To do this, a few preliminary steps are indispensable:
- Check and rebalance the pH of the pool water if necessary.
- Make sure the filtration system is working properly and that the filter is clean.
Once these checks are completed, obtain chlorine in the form of tablets or granules, strictly following the doses indicated on the packaging. Add the chlorine directly to the skimmers according to the recommendations and wait for the water to become clear again. Then, manually brush algae residues and/or use a vacuum robot before swimming again.
Anti-Algae to Counter Green Pool Water
In case of algae proliferation, adding an algaecide is essential to eliminate them. Before administering this product, make sure that the water imbalance is not due to a filtration or pH problem, and correct these parameters if necessary. Follow the recommended doses on the packaging, wait for the water to become clear again, then clean the pool.
Rebalancing pH to Fight Against Greenish Pool Water
The pH of the water is a crucial indicator of its cleanliness and stability. It is essential to monitor it regularly, especially during the summer months, and to rebalance it if necessary. The ideal pH is between 7.2 and 7.4:
- If the pH is below 7.2, the water is too acidic: add a pH+ product.
- If the pH is above 7.4, the water is too basic: add a pH- product.
pH variations can lead to water deterioration, promoting algae growth and green coloration. Always make sure to have pH- and pH+ products available and adjust according to test results.
Flocculant for Better Filtration and Clearer Water
Effective filtration is essential to prevent algae formation in the pool. If despite the previous treatments the water remains green, add a flocculant. This product improves filter performance, thus optimizing water cleaning and the effectiveness of treatments and disinfection. However, be careful: check that your regular maintenance product doesn’t already contain it. The recommended doses must be followed.
Finally, be sure to regularly clean the walls, bottom, and waterline of your pool. Use a skimmer net and a robot to eliminate deposits, drain the filters and skimmer baskets, and brush the walls if necessary. Don’t forget to maintain the proper water level for optimal skimmer operation.
Time Frame for Returning to Clear Water
The recovery speed depends on the chosen treatment. For combined treatment or shock treatment, you can regain clear water in a few hours. However, with hydrogen peroxide treatment, expect about 48 hours to restore a clear color.
