Concrete pool: the construction steps

Summer is fast approaching, and many of you dream of owning your own pool. You’ve had enough of the daily crowded water parks and salt water doesn’t suit you. Or perhaps you simply want to spend time with family or friends in a more private setting. Maybe you also want to host beautiful receptions at home around your pool to enrich your social life with new encounters. All these reasons are valid for embarking on this project. If you have the right space and a sufficient budget, a concrete pool can be an excellent option!
Preparation of the reserved space
Before starting the work, think about the location of your future pool and its dimensions. Delimit the chosen area, mark its future positioning on the ground and ensure that no obstacle crosses the space where your basin will be installed (no cables, nor water or gas pipes).
Take precise measurements, do not hesitate to use stakes and ropes for your markers. Check your measurements several times to be certain you haven’t made a mistake.
Excavation of the surface for the pool
The next step is the excavation. Allow for a one-meter margin around your basin for the piping that will connect your pool to your technical room. Don’t forget that the thickness of the concrete structure will also take up space.
Excavation depends on the nature of your soil. You will need to remove the earth occupying the location of your future pool. This is when you will determine the depth of your pool and whether the bottom is sloped or not. This stage requires great precaution and rigorous compliance with the plans that will be established subsequently.
It is from this excavation phase that your concrete pool construction project will truly begin.
Installation of the drainage system
For safety reasons, it is essential to set up a drainage system at the bottom of your pool. Drains can consist of gravel or a geotextile membrane. They will help protect your structure against pressures and forces caused by rainwater accumulation.
Construction of the concrete pool
Once all these measures are taken, it is time to pour the concrete. Each builder has their own method, but the final result is similar. Certain elements to be sealed necessary for the proper functioning of your pool must be integrated during this stage.
In parallel, start preparing your technical room to install the entire filtration system. You can then set up the hydraulic and electrical circuits of your basin. It is imperative to comply with safety standards during this stage.
Completing the finishes
backfilling. Your project will soon be finished. Your pool is in place, and all that’s left is to decorate it. Your structure is already waterproof; the choice of coating will depend on your aesthetic preferences and your budget. Whether it’s tiling or a liner, it all depends on your tastes. However, a pool will never be completely finished without coping stones all around. Once installed, all that remains is to fill your basin and enjoy the water!
In total, the construction of your concrete pool includes both administrative procedures and the construction itself. Plan for a period between 1 and 4 months.
