What size for an above-ground pool?
Are you considering purchasing an above-ground pool, but don’t know which size to choose? While it may seem easy, determining the right dimensions for your above-ground pool depends on several factors. Discover here the steps and criteria to consider to guide your selection, in order to find the pool size that best suits your space and your desires. This way, you can enjoy a refreshing and pleasant summer in your garden!
The 3 steps to follow to define the size of your above-ground pool

Choose the location and measure the space available on your land
Before thinking about purchasing a pool, it is important to ensure that your land has enough space for its installation.
To do this, determine the precise location where you plan to place your future pool. Once this is done, measure this area and make sure to leave 1 meter between the future pool and any other nearby structure.
Avoid installing your pool near trees or plants with roots that could damage the pool liner or lift it. In addition, the leaves of these plants could contaminate the pool and make it dirty.
Also make sure to choose level ground, with no underground cables or pits.
Determine the size based on how you will use it
Once the location is identified and the size of your land measured, you can then focus on choosing the dimensions of your future pool.
The first criterion to consider in your decision is the use of your pool. If your goal is to relax and swim on hot days, a small pool (less than 10 m²) will be ideal. For outdoor design inspiration, you can explore other sources.
On the other hand, if you want to swim or provide a play area for children, it is advisable to opt for a larger size.
Next, two other elements must be taken into account: the shape and the height of the pool.
It is good to know that round pools do not exceed 10 meters in diameter. If you are looking for a larger pool, consider rectangular models which can reach 18 meters long and 1.5 meters deep.
Both round and rectangular pools have advantages:
- Round pools: easy to install, they generally offer a higher water capacity than rectangular models.
- Rectangular pools: they optimize your garden space and are more suitable for swimming and playing than round pools.
- Oval pools: they also optimize space while requiring less water compared to rectangular pools.
Choose the type of pool
This final step is more focused on aesthetics and concerns the materials of above-ground pools.
