Which pool cover to choose?
Which pool cover to choose?
The automatic slatted cover is one of the protection options for your pool. Custom-designed according to the dimensions of your pool, this element is the most elegant protection option thanks to its various adaptable colors.
This guide sets out the reasons to favor a slatted cover and how to choose it.
Over time, the slatted cover has become the most customizable pool cover system, offering refined aesthetics while being the most effective protection system against falls. Its design allows it to naturally insulate a pool and, when closed, it helps retain water heat.

This in no way diminishes the benefits of other types of pool protection, such as enclosures or safety covers. If a comparison were to be made between the various protection systems, here is an overview.

The aesthetic and functional aspect
Depending on the model, a pool cover can either be built into the pool or installed above it. Depending on your choice, you will face different constraints and customization options.
Above-ground pool cover

Permanently installed at the edge of the pool, an above-ground cover will occupy part of the perimeter (pool width).
Less attractive than an integrated cover, the above-ground model can however be equipped with a housing to improve its aesthetics. It is the most financially affordable type of cover.
Submerged pool cover

The submerged cover, more discreet, is installed inside the basin and requires a swimming surface of 60 to 90 cm for its storage.
In return, this leaves you with an emerged or submerged beach area of 60 to 90 cm.

| Price | ✔️ | ❌ |
The submerged cover has an aesthetic advantage over the above-ground model because it blends harmoniously into your garden. It can be…
Installed at the level of the coping stones, the submerged cover acts as an extension of the terrace, with a submerged beach available at the bottom of the pool.
It integrates simply into the exterior landscape, making the submerged cover an attractive choice for those who prioritize appearance.

It should be mentioned that a submerged cover represents a more significant initial investment. This price difference reflects the complexity of its installation as well as the aesthetic advantages it offers.
The covers offer a multitude of options, particularly in the choice of materials (exotic wood, reinforced PVC, tiles, etc.) for a perfectly personalized result. The slats, generally made of PVC, can also be adapted (depending on the model) to include polycarbonate solar heating slats, offering a more efficient water heating solution compared to traditional bubble covers.
Ease of use
We have mentioned the aesthetic aspect, an essential criterion when choosing a cover, but ease of use is just as crucial. Talking about ease of use for a cover means addressing technology and daily handling.
Some cover models are manual, therefore without a motor. You will have to roll and unroll the cover using a steering wheel. This option is the most economical, but it is only available for above-ground covers.

For optimal use, we recommend motorized covers, which are both simple and fun. If you opt for an automatic above-ground cover, rolling and unrolling will be done using a key switch, which can be integrated into a cover support or operated remotely (as an option).
Some automatic covers now have a dedicated app, allowing the cover to be easily rolled and unrolled via a smartphone.

Securing your pool
Access to pools is governed by regulations via the NF P90-308 standard, in order to prevent drowning risks, especially among young children. It is therefore essential to choose a cover that complies with this standard to avoid having to install an additional safety device later on.
A cover complying with the NF P90-308 standard has an anti-intrusion system as well as a locking mechanism, preventing access to the water for children under five years old.
