The NF P90-309 standard for swimming pool enclosures

To reduce the number of fatal accidents, legislation requires private pool owners to install a safety device.
The law on private pool safety establishes four equipment standards.
Here is an overview of the NF P90-309 standard.

What does the NF P90-309 standard stipulate?

Once the enclosure is fully and correctly closed, the pool must become inaccessible to children under 5 years of age around the entire perimeter, including adjoining or adjacent areas if applicable.

The enclosure must not have components likely to injure children attempting to open it: risks of cutting, pricking, shearing, trapping, suffocation, and strangulation must be avoided.

To allow it to be opened safely for older users, the enclosure must include a means of access that is inaccessible to children under 5 years of age and be safe for all users, whether they are adults or children.

The enclosure must be designed to prevent access by a young child by climbing over, scaling, or opening the access points.

When the enclosure contains mobile elements allowing access to the pool, these elements must include a childproof locking system.

All pool access systems (doors, hatches, windows, sliding panels…) must be equipped with a secure locking system. Lightweight structures and verandas must be able to withstand winds of 100 km/h and a snow load of 45 kg per m2.
