The NF P90-308 standard for pool covers: tarps and shutters

La norme nf p90-308 sur la couverture piscine : bâches et volets

To reduce the number of fatal incidents, legislation requires private pool owners to equip them with safety devices.

What are the elements of the NF P90-308 standard?

It also includes several product categories:

The NF P 90-308 standard establishes minimum safety criteria, test methods, and information to be provided to consumers regardingsafety covers and their attachment mechanisms to prevent accidental immersion of children under 5 years of age.

Covers that are solely intended to protect the water are excluded (such as bubble covers alone, floating tarps, etc.)

The standard stipulates thata “young child must not be able to pass under the cover, nor sink by placing weight on it. These covers must also be able to withstand the passage of an adult weighing up to 100 kg without tearing or detachment of the attachment systems. After being subjected to an impact of 50 kg, the anchoring device on the edge must not be damaged.”

Theanchoring systems must not present a risk of injury to children. Thus, to prevent a child from tripping or falling due to an anchoring device that protrudes, it must not exceed 25 mm above the ground.

Generally speaking, the materials used for the cover, anchoring and attachment systems must comply with current French and European standards.

When is it advisable to opt for this security method?

This option also serves asthermal protection. It can also preserve water quality during periods of non-use. Prices vary considerably: from €1,000 for flexible covers for an 8 x 4 m pool and from €2,300 for a roller shutter.
