Pool cover that opens by itself, what to do?
If your pool cover opens unexpectedly without you requesting it, it’s normal to want to understand why. This type of problem often occurs at the control panel level or due to a short circuit.
When your cover opens on its own, examine:
- The contactor or remote control
- The limit switch sensors
- Signs of corrosion
- A visible short circuit
Faulty contactor or remote control
Start by checking the condition of the contactor or remote control. If either of them is malfunctioning, the cover could receive the instruction to open without your approval. If possible, test with another remote control to eliminate this hypothesis.
Limit switch sensor(s)
Wear of the sensors over time or an unexpected impact on them may be responsible for the problem. Properly examine your installation.
Corrosion or short circuit
Following a storm, your system may have suffered damage due to a power surge. Inspect your installation to detect any traces of short circuit, which often manifest as small black marks on electrical or electronic components. These could be the source of this difficulty.
The problem could also result from corrosion, often related to the use of a salt electrolysis system. Check the condition of your equipment by ensuring everything is in good condition.
What to do about this problem?
Safety is paramount when it comes to handling pool equipment. If the problem seems complex or if you’re not comfortable with repairs, it’s advisable to contact a professional to avoid any risk of accident or additional damage.
