Swimming pool in summer: our advice for enjoying it

Nos conseils pour profiter pleinement de sa piscine l'été

In the middle of summer, the only concern is often to cool off by the pool. However, to fully enjoy this moment, it is crucial to provide it with the necessary maintenance and security measures to guarantee excellent water quality and optimal safety.

Maintenance tasks

The maintenance of your swimming pool can be carried out through simple gestures to be performed regularly to maintain high-quality water.

Regarding the water, it is essential to check its pH as well as the level of disinfectant. To do this, simply use test kits or an electronic pH tester. Depending on the results, you will need to add products to adjust this level. The same goes for the disinfectant: add or refresh the water (or use a chlorine neutralizer) depending on the level indicated. It is also fundamental to filter the water for a duration in hours equivalent to half the temperature. For example, if the temperature is 20 °C, it is necessary to run the filtration pump for 10 hours. Finally, the water level should be monitored.

For cleaning, it is important to monitor filter clogging using the pressure gauge. If the pressure is too high, the filter will need to be cleaned. For a filter with filter media (sand, zeolite, or crushed glass), perform a backwash; for a cartridge filter, remove the cartridge and rinse it under pressure. Also, do not forget to clean the water line with a specific sponge and a suitable product, as well as the entire pool basin using a net to remove larger debris, followed by a vacuum brush.

Ensure safety

The swimming pool can represent a real danger for young children. This is why it is crucial to remain vigilant in order to prevent accidents. Legislation requires owners of private pools to equip their space with various safety devices: a pool alarm that triggers in the event of a child falling or approaching, a safety cover, a barrier or fence, as well as a pool enclosure that restricts access to the water.

Design and atmosphere around the pool

To appreciate your pool and make it a true place of relaxation, it is wise to add a few decorative elements. Ideas are not lacking. For example, a wooden deck can instantly create a warm and welcoming atmosphere. Decorative elements such as shade sails, large clay pots, a garden lounge area, or landscaping with faux rocks and decorative pebbles evoking the beach will bring more life and elegance to this cherished space for our well-being.

Preparation before holidays

Before going on vacation, you might have some concerns about your pool, as we want to avoid unpleasant surprises upon return. For those who have an automatic treatment system (such as salt electrolysis), there is no need to worry, as these systems perform all the work in the owners’ absence. Otherwise, before departure, it is imperative to carry out a thorough cleaning of the pool with a robot, brushing the walls and the water line. The skimmers and the filter must also be cleaned, and calcium and pH levels should be checked. The application of an algaecide to prevent the growth of algae is also advised. At the time of departure, it is recommended to cover the pool, run the filter, and add slow-dissolving chlorine blocks to effectively disinfect the pool water.
