The new pool salt chlorinators

Electrolyseur piscine : comment choisir ?

BIO-POOL salt chlorinators now available on COVERD'EAU

How does pool salt electrolysis work?

The operation of a ⟨1⟩salt chlorinator⟨/1⟩ for swimming pools is based on an electrochemical process called electrolysis. The chlorinator converts salt (sodium chloride) present in the pool water into chlorine, a natural disinfectant.

Pool salt must be of extreme purity because potential trace elements or minerals contained in the salt could stain the liner or shell, or exacerbate scale problems. For these reasons, it is necessary to purchase special pool salt to ensure the proper functioning of your pool.

Saltwater electrolysis is a transformation process based on a cycle: chloride ions provided by the salt are transformed into chlorine through the supply of electrical energy, and part of the chlorine transforms back into chloride ions during the reaction with organic matter present in the pool water.

BIO-POOL has 30 years of history and expertise in the field of pool equipment. Quality is at the heart of their concerns. All their products are manufactured in France.

Steps in the operation of a salt chlorinator

Introduction of salt into the pool

Salt is added to the water to reach an optimal concentration (3,000 to 4,000 ppm), according to the chlorinator specifications and the pool volume. Example: for a 45 m³ pool with a 5g/L chlorinator, 45 × 5 = 225 kg of salt is needed. The salt is distributed around the pool, with filtration running and the chlorinator off, then dissolved over 48 hours.

Water circulation

The dissolved salt is sucked in by the filtration system before being sent to the chlorinator.

Electrolysis process

The saltwater passes through an electrolysis cell where an electric current decomposes the salt (NaCl) into chlorine gas.

Production and action of chlorine

The dissolved chlorine forms hypochlorous acid and sodium hypochlorite, effective disinfectants against bacteria and algae.

Salt recycling

Under the effect of UV rays and impurities, the chlorine recombines with sodium to reform salt, allowing a continuous cycle.

Monitoring

It is essential to regularly check the salt and chlorine levels to guarantee clean water and proper functioning of the chlorinator.
